Hair Transplants

Information on Micro-Surgical Hair Transplants

Hair transplantation is the only permanent method of restoring hair. And, when it comes to hair replacement, we all want the same result - a natural one. And with micro-surgical hair transplants, the most advanced technique used in restoring hair, this is achieved. With this method, the process of hair growth is not altered. The result is completely natural and virtually undetectable.

How Hair Transplants Work

Hair Transplant Donor Area

Donor Area

Defined as the area containing healthy hair follicles on the back and sides of the head which genetically do not shed.

When performed by experts, hair transplants are easy for the patient, but requires that the surgeon have refined artistic skill. The process begins with an evaluation of the donor area. This area on the back and sides of the head contains healthy hair follicles that are genetically programmed not to shed. Sufficient donor hair is needed for successful hair transplantation.

A small section of tissue is removed from the donor area and is then dissected under magnification into individual hair follicular units and micro-grafts. After the hair grafts are carefully prepared, they are strategically placed into bald or thinning hair areas. Single-hair follicular units are placed at precise but varied angles in the frontal hair zone to create a soft, natural looking hairline.

More follicular units and micro-grafts are placed behind the hairline, providing density and volume to cover the larger balding areas. Placement of our grafts is designed to resemble naturally growing hair.

Patient Comfort

Compared to many other cosmetic surgery procedures, hair transplants are a comfortable and easy treatment for the patient. Even so, MHR continually strives to improve all aspects of the process, from surgical technique to follow up care. Because patent care is always our first priority, it is important that each patient feel comfortable and relaxed. For maximum patient comfort and healing following a hair transplant procedure, Medical Hair Restoration recommends Graftcyte® products.

Hair Transplant Procedure

A hair transplant procedure is completed within two to six hours. If a bandage is required, it is removed the following day, at which time many patients return to their normal activities. Some patients have even returned to work the same day as their hair transplant procedure. With advanced micro-surgical techniques, most patients do not need a bandage. As in nature, the hair grows slowly. The hair begins to grow at three months and will continue to grow at the same rate as your natural hair. Results are usually complete in 8 to 12 months. The transplanted hair will grow forever and does not require special maintenance.
