Hair Transplants

Information on Micro-Surgical Hair Transplants

Recovery and Healing

The scalp is very vascular, so immediately after the follicular unit hair grafts and micro-grafts are transplanted, the surrounding tissue begins feeding the transplant follicle and healing begins. A slight scab forms on the exterior of the scalp, which usually falls off after a week. The hair shaft may also shed, but the hair follicle remains and often goes into a resting phase. Medical Hair Restoration was involved in research to speed healing of transplanted hair and reduce the hair loss in the transplant graft, and as a result offer GraftCyte products. Medical Hair Restoration reports hair graft survival rates of near 100%.

To insure the best result, each patient should perform some minor post-operative care for the first week after the hair transplant such as cleansing routines, limited physical activity, and the use of anti-swelling medication.

In one to three months patients will begin to notice the hair growing. Normal growth is ½" a month. There's no special care needed- cut it and style it any way you want. No more worrying about which way the wind blows, getting wet or perspiring. It's your hair- it's just been moved from where you have it to where you don't!

And it keeps growing for a lifetime. Amazingly, the hair follicle keeps it's original genetic coding, so it doesn't attract DHT. Despite being moved into a formerly bald area, it still behaves like a donor area hair.

How much hair is restored depends on the patient's degree of hair loss and their desired result. Some needs are met in one hair transplant procedure; the goals of some others may be best achieved over multiple hair transplant surgeries.
