Dr. Melvin Mayer Honored with International 'Platinum Follicle Award'
Orlando, FL - Renowned surgeon Dr. Melvin Mayer has been honored by the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS) with the prestigious "Platinum Follicle Award." This annual award recognizes one doctor, from more than 700 physician members around the world, for contributing valuable research to the science of hair restoration surgery. The process of surgical hair restoration involves removing hair from a donor area (typically the thick hair on the back of the head) and strategically relocating it to a bald or thinning area.
Dr. Mayer has helped thousands of men and women with their hair loss needs for the past 12 years. The "Platinum Follicle" recognizes his technical skill in advancing the entire practice of hair restoration. Specifically, he was honored for developing the Mayer-Pauls Scalp Elasticity Scale (used to maximize the amount of hair-bearing tissue while producing minimal scarring), developing advanced techniques for transplanting intricate temporal points, and for his work in follicular regeneration. He was also recognized for his successful research award grants and for his efforts as co-scientific coordinator of the annual Live Surgery Workshop, where hair restoration physicians gather to observe the latest surgical techniques.

Current ISHRS president Dr. Mario Marzola presented the award to Dr. Mayer at the 12th annual scientific meeting of the organization, held in Vancouver this month. Hair restoration physicians from more than 48 countries were represented at the meeting.
Dr. Mayer is a diplomate of the American Board of Hair Restoration Surgery and presently serves on its Board of Directors. He is a respected speaker and presenter at medical society events around the world. Dr. Mayer performs surgery at Medical Hair Restoration in San Diego, CA and Las Vegas, NV.
